Hi !
My child is studying in First Year Engineering at Purdue University. I would like to know what are the chances of getting Biomedical Engineering (BME) as Major of first choice?
I hope my child will maintain GPA 3.5 or above. How competitive BME is to get in?
BME was one of the most competitive majors last year as they capped the program at 100 seats. My D knew a few students well over the 3.2 engineering admission index (basically the STEM gpa) who were not admitted. Those students are doing mechanical instead, which is arguably more employable, or bioengineering. There is lots of overlap with BME and other majors.
The non BME major friends all were able to secure internships or co-ops at biotech companies as well.
That said, if your son has an EAI over 3.5, he should be in good shape.
Thanks for your reply
