I'm a rising senior who's interested in attending UT next fall. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on which school (first and second choice) to apply to. My highest priority is getting into UT, so I don't mind applying to a school which is easier and then attempting to transfer within the university. Can anyone point me in the right direction or comment on the admissions difficulty of each college/school within UT-Austin. Thanks a lot.

I'm pretty sure the McCombs School of Business is the hardest to get into, while the college of liberal arts and school of geosciences are the easiest. (geosciences b/c well...they have like nobody there lol).

A UT rep told me at a college night that the business school doesn't care whether you put them first choice or second, but almost all the other ones do.

I applied as a psychology major (liberal arts) first choice, and unspec. business as second. I still have no idea if I got in the bus. school, but I did get into liberal arts honors sending in two essays I did for another college w/ that college's name in them. :P

As far as the business school THEY DEFINITELY CARE about being first. If you want to do business then you HAVE to but them first, or else YOU WILL NOT GET IN. I captilize because at the Honors thing i attended at UT, it was VERY clear that engineering, business, nursing and pharamacy need to be first if that is what you want.

Jchu41: Please clarify I'm trying to figure out what I am missing. As far as I know Apply Texas just became available on 8/1. Are you saying that you applied immediately and already got an admission from liberal arts honors within a space of 7 days? At first I thought you might be talking about last year but since you said you still don't know about the business school I was trying to figure out what your time table is. Thanks.

Oh im going to be a freshmen this fall, but I didn't know if I got into the UT business school at all. Idk if you can get into two colleges and choose which one you want, but looking at all hte people who applied to the bus school and me putting it as a secondary choice w/ lib arts as a first, I don't think they even considered it since they didn't have enough space.

Oh and I guess they do care if you put them first or not, I was just going off information provided by a UT rep at a college night. Though she strongly advocated transferring into business after freshmen year since it would be easier if your grades aren't too great in HS. I'm going to have to apply for transfer anyways since I want to double major in finance + whatever liberal arts im doing.

Admission to UT is notoriously difficult for out-of-state students due to the small number of places left available after 10%-ers from Texas are accepted. We were told by an admissions counselor that out-of-staters are rare in the School of Architecture. Because my S wants to become an actor, he applied to the College of Fine Arts and was accepted. My dad knows someone whose grandson was rejected from the pre-med program with a 4.0 high school average, so he is attending Brown this fall!

I had also heard that there is a paucity of males in theater programs across the country, so my S, whose second choice of field of study would have been physics, was fortunate to apply to such programs, especially in light of the way he screwed around in HS.
