Selecting Valedictorian/Salutatorian Rant

in our district (palm beach county), the val/sal are determined like this:

Weights:
AP/IB ~~~1.5x (so A=6, B=4.5, C=3...)
H/G/PIB~~1.125x (so A=4.5,B=3.375,C=2.25...)
R/B~~~~1x (so A=4, B=3, C=2)

so, grades are weighted and is called HPA (honors point average). this is used for rank, and is what is sent to colleges if they ask for it.

however, when choosing val/sal, any middle school high school credit courses taken are excluded and make up mHPA (meritocratic HPA). this tends to heighten mHPA 'cause MS courses are mostly honors (like Algebra I Hon, Geometry Hon...), and if your HPA is higher than 4.5 (which is a def if your val/sal), dropping these courses= a boost in mHPA

because of this, although i'm 3rd (HPA), im still sal (mHPA)... it's wierd...

Really stupid stuff... I know so many people that are in all the clubs at school and don't do ANYTHING, so that really bites to be in your position. Life is unfair I guess? Just like how CA uses the 4.0 system insread of the 100 point system (I HATED THIS).

My school's valedictorians are always involved in MANY ECs/leadership positions...so it would be the same anyhow
