selection of fall classes

So right now, I'm taking Chem 1A at a community college. The credits are transferable to Stanford which means the course is equivalent to Stanford Chem 31X.

My question is: Should I skip 31X if I get an A in my summer class?

I want to start Chem 33 (organic chem), but Stanford doesn't offer it in the fall, so I was thinking of taking Chem 31X to learn the material...again (but in more depth).

Anyway, as a premed, there are so many requirements. It's like a major in itself. Premeds have to take the physics 20 sequence, a bunch of chem classes, calc, and the Bio/HumBio core. And they have to do all of this before April of Junior year because that's when they take the MCAT.

I don't know what to take in the fall. These are courses I'm considering:

-SLE (9)
-Psych 1 (5)
-Math 42 (5)
-Physics 21 (3)
-Chem 31X (4)
-seminar

What are you thinking of?

IHUM (journeys, hopefully)
Math 51
Chem 33 (you sure its not offered in the fall?)
Seminar
small one-unit course

I was also wondering whether we can start learning an instrument from scratch. Is it too late?

oh wow.i thought kids were taking it light the first quarter

IHUM
Computer Science 1C (only an hour a week. lol no idea how to use excel)
Spanish 1
Economics 1(or PWR)

SLE
Math (whatever I place into)
Physics (whatever they recommend)

That would be the most heavenly schedule I can imagine...ohhh man.

yes i asked prof stack of the chem dept. chem 33 is offered in the winter/spring/summer, but not in the fall.

hey staticsolilquy... so here's my situation... tell me what u recommend.

I took AP chem my senior year and I'm pretty sure i pulled off at least a 4 on the exam...so I would just be placed in chem 33. so should I take chem 31x in the fall or should i take another course? so, what do u think?

hmm that is also my situation. it depends on your major. will you be a premed? because some med school doesn't take ap credit so you will be missing out on a year of gen chem that is required.

I heard that chem 31x covers more sophisticated/complex topics. But I also heard from my friend that 31x is harder than 33 (which i find hard to believe because orgo is supposedly THE weeder class). He recommends skipping 31x if you have the option. I recommend taking chem 33 in the winter if you have other requirements to fulfill.

what major are you considering?

I was thinking
SLE
Math 51
Seminar (econ or English)

I was also looking at a history class, English 73, or a art history class.

hey guys, i got a 5 on ap chem my junior year but am not considering a major in anything science-related at all. what advantages are there to taking the higher chemistry class? or should i just take the basic chem class again?

Well, as of now, I am planning on going to med school but I will be a Biological Sciences major. My minor is Intl Relations so if I have room my fall quarter I could probably just take PoliSci 1 instead of chem.

ihum, math, physics, pwr or seminar

i'm not sure about the rest though, still haven't read the engineering requirements booklet

"am not considering a major in anything science-related at all."
if you're not, why would you want to take a chem class?

ugh
the pre-med sequences are hell.to do and to plan out :(
i really hope i can double major (humbio/pubpol or int.rela) so i'm anxious to have a "plan" in my hands

^sorry: that had nada to do w/ur situation lol

Hey BellaRed..I'm im a similar situatioon...I'm gonna be a Bio major with a minor in Intl. Rel.

but yea it is gonna be hell

Alrite it seems like I'll be doing:

IHUM Human and Machine (hopefully)
Math 51
Physics 51
Chem 31A
PWR

Except, that way too much. I need to decide between Physics and Chem, which basically means i need to know whether I'm doing biomechanical engineering or electrical engineering!

okay...do we have to fullfill the PWR requirements the fall quarter? how many quarters must we take it for?

i was thinking Stats 60 (humbio/psych requirement), IHUM (mortality or journeys, hopefully), an introsem (hopefully something that gets rid of some GERs)....and...

hahaha i want to have something fun to do...so i'm thinking either...a dance class (social dance...or hip hop?) or athletics (something new for me...like golf, sailing, martial arts, kickboxing.....lol if you look in the bulletin there's a class called "Athletics 90: Posture" and the description starts "Individual standing posture evaluation..."

and...just throwing ideas around while looking at the bulletin ...chem 31x, psych 1, IHUM in the winter, and then chem 33/36, IHUM and either PWR or PSYCH 45 in spring...but yeah those are just ideas...who knows

cardinal 09: i believe that you just have to fulfill the two PWR classes by the end of sophomore year...

ugh, why are none of the interesting introsems offered in the fall?

okay, i'm having a tough time choosing my classes. haha, here's what i have narrowed down to (but it's still a massive list.)

IHUM (transformations or mortality)
Math 42 or 51 (haha, i'll be reeeeally surprised if i scored a 5 on the AP)
Clarinet instruction
Music 21
Linguistics 1
Psych 1
Law in Society (introsem)

haha, i guess i have to figure out what i want to major in first. i'm leaning towards psych and music (double major)... but linguistics and symbolic systems seem really interesting too! ahhh, decisions decisions.

god bellared and cardinal, i sympathized with you guys.
I'm so scared about this whole premed thing.
It's a major in itself.

I want to do the health policy track in human biology, good mixture of
social science and natural science. But I know i'll probably end up doing infectious disease and international health.

I was thinking of taking Math 42 and Physics 21 to get those two premed out of the way.

Let's hope I get at least a 3 on AP Physics C, but god knows I won't so all hope is futile.

Math 42 although stats 60 sounds more appealing.

I really want to do Psych 1 to see if I do like psychology. It'll be my experimental course of the quarter. I promise myself each quarter I have to take a class just for the heck of it.

SLE
Math 42
Psych1
Introsem:
-Understanding the Welfare System (econ)
-The Nation's Health (humbio)
-The Aids Epidiemic (medicine)
-Paradoxes (phil)
-Emotion (psych)

Which introsem do you guys find most appealing? I can't wait to take Gay Autobiographies in the spring!
