selection of major to enhance chances of admission to UT Austin

Hi: I've heard that in order to maximize chances of gaining admission to UT Austin that one can apply to one major and then transfer to another after their first year; e.g., appying to Education and then transferring to Liberal Arts. Anyone heard of this strategy and is it effective? Is there an easiest major to apply to to get admission?

thanks

Yes, and I’ve personally know someone who did just that. my orientation roommate is out of state and really wanted to get into UT, but may not have the gpa to get into his first choice major. He applied for education because of the need of male teachers and he got in.

Education has historically been the “back door” in. I know of a number of kids in the past who’ve done that, but I’m not sure how effective it will be next year (2010) if some ridiculous amount of admits are top 10%.

2011, when they move to the new 75%-10%, 25% holistic, it might be easier.

thanks for the info; we still may try this strategy.

Liberal arts is pretty easy to get into the first time around.
Though if you do decide to transfer, it’s super easy to transfer from any college in UT into liberal arts.
