I am an out of state student who was recently admitted to IU- Bloomington. I was not invited to complete the selective scholarship application and I am wondering if anyone knows the requirements to receive the application. I have a 31 on my act, a 4.06 gpa, and a wide variety of extracurricular activities including Student Council President. Please let me know what I needed to be able to recieve a selective scholarship application and if I am able to contact the scholarship office to re-evaluate me. Thanks!
The SSA is done through the One.IU portal. There is a Scholarship icon that you click on so if you have any you are able to apply for you can check there. I don’t know the baseline for getting an SSA invitation but your stats are better than my D’s were and she was invited to apply last year.
I would call the school and see what it takes. My D’s notice was in her Red Envelope she received as part of the admissions notification. The portal is where we did all the SSA application submission.
I would go to your One.IU portal and find the scholarship icon and click on it to see what it says, if anything. Depending on what you see there, I would then contact the school and ask. Never hurts to ask.
Thank you that is very helpful!
@hello94 My son was accepted to IU per the portal, which said nothing about Selective Scholarship Application. He has yet to receive the envelope, but we did go in the One.IU portal last night and followed a process similar to what @dcolosi described above. We were able to see a scholarship form to fill out. It doesn’t say “Selective Scholarship Application” anywhere that I saw, but I believe that’s what it is. Son is going to wait for the red envelope before he does anything with it, in case there are some instructions or anything in the envelope.
In my D’s acceptance email it told her she would receive an email to apply for Selective Scholarships. She received the email a few days later. When she signs into One IU, she has two scholarship apps to complete: one for general scholarships and then one for selective scholarships. Did you apply by the Nov 1 deadline? If so, I don’t think it would hurt to email the scholarship office and ask if you meet the eligibility criteria for the SSA.
I received my application to apply for the SSA a few weeks after acceptance. Your stats are better than mine so I would just give it time.
My son got direct admit to Kelley, $11K Dean’s scholarship. Few weeks later he got a letter to apply for SSA and invitation to join Hutton Honors College. Also also got an email for SSA invitation. He has finished his SSA application. His stats: SAT=1500; UW - 3.89; Weighted = 5.23. We are from Texas
Now the question: how good is Kelley Business School? Do students get good paying jobs after graduation?
@Bader316 congrats to your son!
Kelley is an excellent business school. US News ranks many of their programs in the top 10, Management #9, Accounting and Finance #8, Marketing and MIS #6 and Entrepreneurship #3.
My acceptance email said nothing about SSA. I applied by the November 1 deadline, I think i’m going to email the scholarship offfice I think.
I would contact the school, it seems like you should at least have an invite to apply for an SSA. When my D did it last year she had 4 different ones to apply for on her SSA link within One.IU. Have you tried to just click on that icon for scholarships on the One.IU site?
Related question. My son was accepted to IU in October and has completed his SSA (he was invited to apply for Hutton and SICE Direct Admit scholarships). It is pretty much a given that IU will be the school he chooses (we have a couple more schools we are waiting to hear from). Is there any downside to enrolling at IU before decisions are made on the SSAs? That is, I am wondering if the SSAs are partly a recruitment tool to get undecided students to commit to IU; therefore enrolling would hurt his chances of getting an SSA scholarship. I expect the answer is that there is no relationship between enrollment and SSA, but wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this.
My D enrolled before the decisions on the SSA because even without an award, IU was the best option for her major . She did get some money from the SSA for the School of Ed. Didn’t impact her by enrolling prior to the decisions. Some of the scholarships she was applying to weren’t making decisions until late in the summer so we didn’t want to wait around.
DS is sophomore at IU, he got the original merit scholarship in the fall when first accepted but did not even go to look at IU until after he got the additional money from SSA in February. That is what sealed his decision to attend IU.
I doubt it, but I don’t think it would hurt to delay enrollment until later. I went through the SSA and honestly just forgot to actually enroll until the last minute. For the record, I’m loving the people at Kelley and IU.
@1S1Dforcollege ; can you tell me how much awarded in SSA per year? Thank you!
@CWAE182025 - the amounts vary. DS got a named one thru Hutton. FYI- this one requires a higher GPA to keep it- 3.4
@CWAE182025 , SSA award amount through HHC is about $2-3K per year.

Is the SSA applicable to Kelley school of business? My daughter received direct admit to Kelley with 44K Deans scholarship.
@JerseDad Yeah. It doesn’t matter what major you are for the SSA. Anyone can fill it out that receives the invitation. I recommend filling it out.
My daughter recieved 3 additional scholarships via the SSA, The Indiana scholars direct admit scholarship (CAS) the Herbert Presidential Scholar and the C&I Harlos scholarship. The honors college awards require a 3.4 GPA.
