Our DS registered for the selective service though he is only 17. We know that they won't make it official til he is 18. But we knew that he needed to do this to for the FAFSA. While working on the FAFSA we kept marking yes (that he did register) and it kept showing up blank later. I wonder if this is because he is not yet 18? I don't want them to think that he did not do this. Strange.

I believe they are not required to register until they are 18. I had the same issue with our 17-year-old son and won’t worry about it until he’s 18 (this summer).

Thanks - I guess they can’t expect him to registered anyway since he is only 17.

We were told to leave it blank instead of saying yes or no by the college.

My son is 17 and it registered him and I already got a selective service ID card in the mail to prove he is registered!
