<p>KingJames, my son was just 17 when we filled it out and going by the rules, we didn't check it. No one said anything and we got confirmation on merit awards, etc. When I called Fafsa, they said he had to be 17 and 3 months and to do it later in the year. When I called one college to check, they said as long as he does it by October 2006, he's fine, but we will correct it this summer. It wasn't "avoiding" anything at the time, we just followed instructions and what they told us to do when we called fafsa. The fafsa spokesperson at his school also answered that question with the same answer, so I thought we might "mess it up" if we checked it!
For most students, it wouldn't be a thought, my son was just a little younger than most.</p>
