So I registered for the Selective Service in February, and some schools have received proof of registration, but most have not. I didn't send anything to any of the schools, however: I just signed up online. I'm sort of confused: do I need to send the schools anything as proof of my registration? I haven't gotten anything in the mail from Selective Service yet...So do I need to do anything additional, after having signed up for Selective Service online? Or are the schools somehow notified? Sorry if this a dumb question, but my family hasn't been much help... :/

You don’t need to send anything to the schools. I think they rely on the federal gov’t to police that (through releasing or denying loans).

Thank you!

Were you 18 when the FAFSA was processed? If so, the Selective Service federal database was checked when your FAFSA was processed. If you were in the database, your FAFSA would have cleared the SS check with no error messages. If you should have been registered but were not, you would have received an error message.

If you were not yet 18, you can sometimes skate by for the year without any SS checks … but if any changes are sent out & your eligibility is checked at that time, you can run into trouble with your aid.

If you have already signed up for SS, you should be fine.

You can always fill out a postcard at the post office and send it in. Then you know for sure. . .

Thanks kelsmom; I was 18, but my parent have no idea what I am talking about when I mention the selective service check on the FAFSA. If an error message would have come up though, I’m sure they just checked it off absent mindedly. Hopefully everything will work out fine :D

Olymom: I can check my registration online, and it seems to have worked; if I can check my registration online, I’m all good…right?
