I've received email from some UCs I applied few weeks ago and they are asking me for my selective service documents in order to process my FAFSA. So then I found out that I wasn't registered, and as I try, it wouldn't let me because it says something like my ssn isn't in their database. However, my brother was successfully registered. I did mail a form to register but it has been 3 weeks, I still have not get any reply from selective service yet. The deadline for me to submit missing documents to UCs is May, I don't know at this rate, will I be able to make it? Has anyone here had, or heard of similar experience? Please if any, let me know the solution

Are you sure that you’re putting in YOUR SSN? check to make sure you’re putting in the right number. You are a male, right? If you’re a female, you don’t register. If you are a female, contact your schools because they may have your sex wrong.

yes I am male, and I did try several times re-entering information and made sure it was correct. What the system tells me is that my SSN isn’t yet in their database.

Are you 18?

yes, and my question was mainly just how long does it usually take them to process my application for selective service. Because I have not heard from them since I mailed my reg paper, and don’t know how long it will take for me to get the form that proves that I am registered then I could mail this thing to UC financial office.

Go online and try it again. If your paperwork has been processed, it will likely show that you’re registered.

Are you getting your social security number from your social security card? If not, I would find that and make sure you have the right social security number. Someone else could have written it down wrongly.

Yeah, I got it from my social security card and I am sure that the numbers are correct. also checked a register, it still says I am not registered.

how long does it take for a uc to receive the selective service registration?

I’ve been registered for a year now but my SSN still doesn’t show on their website. It took a while before I received my registration paper though, IIRC, it took about a month -.- Maybe you can call them and ask for it? From their site:

"If you do not receive an acknowledgment card within 90 days of registering, or if you require a replacement acknowledgment card, please call Selective Service at 1-847-688-6888. Your call will be answered by an automated voice processing system. Listen carefully to the directions, and select the option for receiving your own Selective Service number. "

You are required to register for SS.

Are you entering your name as it appears on your social security card?

My son got his registration in the mail today. FAFSA app asked if he was registered, we said no because he wasn’t 18. It asked if we wanted them to do it for him. We said yes. The paperwork we got today said it was done on 2/16, 30 days prior to his 18th birthday. He received the registration today about 5 weeks later.
