Selective Service

Has anyone registered for it? I have until the end of May to do it. I don't know how I feel about registering. Hopefully there isn't a draft anytime soon.

Register. There is NO, absolutely, NO credible talk of reimplementing the draft.

I registered but I have no idea why.

you register because its the law...lol
I got an email today from work, saying to remember to register or else it could cause serious problems with my terms of employment

could it be the 5 years or $500,000?

There are terms where you won't be drafted:
I believe if you're in college (I could be mistaken on this one) you won't be drafted.
If you're the last male in the family, you won't be drafted.
Or... if worse comes to worse, you could always say you're gay :D .

Well I am exempt from serving as a soldier for two more years because I had surgery.

If there is a draft, the first males selected will be the 20 year olds, and then the 21 year olds, 22 year olds, and so on... until you reach the age of 25. After that I think it is very unlikely to get drafted.

How come my dad never registered? He came here in his twenties as a permanent resident and then got his citizenship and he was never asked to register.

You can still be in college and get drafted. Trust me. My dad was drafted to go fight in Vietnam and he was in college and planning on attending Yale Law, but had to give up those dreams.

Anyway, there won't be a draft anytime soon. No politician would suggest bringing it back ever, it would be political suicide. Don't worry about the draft. It's not even a possibility at the moment.

The draft being implemented is very possible if we declare war on Iran. Actually, its inevitable because we have troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, and maybe Iran. If such occurs, the draft will probably be initiated. I am not afraid to fight for me country. Many of our grandparents and parents did so, so shall we also.

I have asthma and vision problems though so I probably will not have to do combat.

Yes its great that I don't have to fight for another two years due to a surgery. Honestly though, if I was drafted, I am outta here.

Really? To where would you move, W1cked? Honestly, I would stay here in the USA, I would most likely not do combat work because of health issues. I probably would be relocated to a computer or paperwork job.

Go to India or England. I have family in both places. In extreme circumstances if both countries are drawn into war, Switzerland it is.

Hah, probably best to stay in a neutral country, although I heard that every male citizen in Switzerland is issued a uniform and gun and goes through military training yearly in case of war. Oh well, hopefully the draft will not occur, but I have a feeling it will.

Actually, there is a draft in Switzerland... Every male over 18 has to serve (granted, not likely in a war) for a couple of months...

No, I meant a draft in the USA. Sorry the confusion.

O, sorry... I didn't see you already posted this information.

I know there is a draft in Switzerland. The comforting fact is that the Swiss tend to stay out of wars.
