I did the fafsa and said yes to selective service and I am not recieving any aid because my EFC is too high. I just found out what selective service is! You can get called into the army if there is a war, I do not want that to happen to me so is there anyway to change the selective service thing to a no?

No, you are registered now. You cannot unregister yourself. Nor should you even if you could. You are required by law to sign up for selective service, it is not just for financial aid. Signing up for selective service is a legal requirement for almost every male in the USA. Not doing so can lead to fines, imprisonment, ineligibility for federal aid, benefits and government jobs.

The selective service has been a requirement by law for several decades. It is not something new.

so what happens now.. If there is a war they could call me in.. What the hell this is unbelievable! I don't want to fight in the army!

Whether you are registered or not, if there is a draft, you would be obligated to serve. I think it is highly unlikely you would not be located.

The last military draft was in the early 1970's so don't worry about it.

Just be glad you don't live in Isreal or Switzerland where Military Service is Mandatory.

So, are you saying that you are not willing to fight to defend the benefits of living in this country?

wait, drafts? So that means they can't pull me out of college and make me fight in the army if I clicked register me for selective service?

Wow, you could try googling what you signed up for before freaking out over it. Selective Service is just paperwork for the draft. You didn't join the army, but if you are so quick to randomly sign stuff I wouldn't be surprised if you accidentally got recited.

Do a little quick research...google Selective Service or just check out some facts on Selective Service (Wikipedia). Registering for Selective Service is not the same as being drafted. While no one can say for sure whether a draft will be reinstated in our lifetimes, I wouldn't worry about being snatched from college, without any warning and shipped off to war now that you're on a government list.

Good post, lockn.
