I'm wondering about the selectivity of 2 things in particular.

Scholarships. I'm in the top 3% at my competitive NY public school and have an SAT of 2330. It seems like I may have a potential chance at possibly getting a scholarship, but I don't really know. Anyone know how selective those top scholarships are?

The Joint Degree Programme with St Andrews. I'm applying to both the College and also separately to the program. I'm extremely interested in the International Relations option for the joint program. But the program as a whole seems so selective. As I mentioned, I have pretty good/competitive stats, and I believe my international interest comes across in my dedication to public forum debate (I'm a captain). However, since so few people are accepted, it is even worth it for me to apply? Or would I basically get rejected unless I had absolutely incredible, amazing, astonishing stats?

W&M is selective for admission. That means scholarship selection will be even more selective unfortunately. The good news is that every student who applies is considered for every scholarship we have. There’s nothing extra you have to do. Only about 50 students enter each year with merit money for tuition. An additional 80 students are so come in as Monroe Scholars but that money is for research and not tuition. Now we offer more than 130 scholarships because some we offer to turn us down and we offer just enough to get the 130 who eventually enroll but still, it’s a very selective process but again, all you have to do is apply.

The Joint Degree Programme is selective but last year, which was the first year so there’s no standard yet, the joint degree programme is just as selective as W&M but no more so. Now IR is the most popular of the four majors so that’s a bit more competitive than the other programs. That all being said, if you’re interested, apply. You’ll never know if you could have gotten in if you don’t and the worst that happens is you don’t get in.

Thanks for responding!

I know you guys have released the average SATs, etc for the regular application process. Is there any information regarding the average stats, etc for the students accepted to joint degree program? I consider it to be a contender for my first-choice school, so I’m trying to figure out what I’m up against to maybe relax a tiny bit.

We did not calculate an average SAT for those admitted into the joint degree program but admission for that program, like any other, is much more than SAT. When you’re 70 points away from a perfect score you don’t need to worry about the competitiveness of your SAT score. It’s going to be stronger than most!
