Selectivity

I know that adimission officers select students according to their region, but do they look at what school they go to and how many students at that school are applying? So, the ultimate question is do you compete with applicants in your school or in the whole area.

Both, I believe. I mean..they want to choose students from diverse geographical locations, so they will consider your region. But in a single region, they probably don't want to take all of the students from the same school. I know that there are limits on the number of students they'll take from certain schools, so yes, you are competing with students at your school.

Thanks. I am rather nervous since I know 5 students from my school is applying to Penn. All of us have solide academic background and good extracurricular activities. It is going to be harsh...=(

40 kids applied to Penn last year between ED and RD...15 or so ED this year...Great

Anyone know how many Penn usually accept from 1 school?

depends on the size of the school really? My school about 200 kids or 50-60 per graduating class... Penn usually takes one and at max two...

i dont think they have any such quotas, specifically. depends on a lot of things including the strength of the applicants, the region, the school's history of sendin kids to penn, etc.

My school had ~50 ED and 20 RD last year. ~5 got in ED (one for track) and 1-2 got in RD (one M+T). You never know.

From my school, usually about 10-15 kids apply to Penn (almost always RD) and usually 2-4 are accepted (although often they are recruited for crew).

Not sure how that really impacts my chances... (I'm 1 of 2 applying ED to Penn this year.)

I don't think anyone from my school is applying ED. except maybe 1 person...but I don't even know, I think.

Most people don't know much about it here in NC.

my school has 27 applying early this year. last year 18 applied early and about 9 got in.

ns, do you mind if I ask where you live in NC? I'm guessing Charlotte, Greensboro, or Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill. My friend and I decided that those are probably the only areas of NC that send students to Penn. How many people do you know of that are applying in your area?

adf8, Greensboro. I don't really know anyone at my school applying to Penn.

I am assuming from my county about 50 (if u count early college programs and such). Anyhow, one high school in my district sends a few kids to ivies (a girl got full ride to harvard), however my school is not as intense.

But yea, from my school probably only me. From Greensboro, I am guessing 50-60 (not sure though, and dunno if they will ED). I only know 1 other person applying to Penn, but he is not doing ED. Where are u from?

Ah, I'm from Greensboro too. I go to the high school that sends some students to the Ivies (I feel weird naming it on here!). 2 other people from my school are applying early decision, and I know of one person from another school applying. I would guess about 15 people ED from Greensboro, tops, because well, like you said, not many schools send kids to the Ivies. I think only 12 (or maybe 18) people from NC went to Penn last year, so there really can't be THAT many applying.
