Self-employed count in work experience

Im doing my UC app, and it asks for work experience. i've never worked for anyone but am self-employed. I have been teaching piano and tutoring (paid) since freshmen year, and random stuff like babysitting and selling flea market/garage sale finds on ebay... can i still put that kind of thing down, or do they only accept like "official" work... you know what i mean.

I didn’t list any work experience and I got in. Just list stuff that would contribute to your app, i.e. teaching piano and tutoring should be excluded.

i cant base something on only one person =/ . you may have other better ec’s than me, or a better essay, sat’s, gpa, etc. i talk about teaching piano in my essay though, and i made a lot of money…idk i thought it might contribute to my app =S

You don’t have to listen to one person, it’s just my opinion. CC is forum-based, allowing for more than one person to give their input! :D

If you think it fits then just put it in. I put in a job that I only worked for one day, and it was actually more like a volunteer service but I got paid. The UCs aren’t gonna think your a liar or something.

I would consider it work experience, even if it’s self-employment. Doesn’t say anywhere in my recollection about not being able to put those down under that category and it will show that you did spend time outside of school and extracurriculars, demonstrating a well-balanced applicant with the ability to work “self-employed”.

I agree. Teaching piano and tutoring are work experience, and worth mentioning.
