Anyone know the difference?

Ace and I had a discussion on another thread and I figured this would be a question useful to most people, when answered, as they can both tend to have quite ambiguous interpretations.

I responded on the other thread but will do so here as well. My daughter researched this last year. Self-Paced Independent study courses are NOT the same as online. IU (and Kelley) accept online course credit from accredited community colleges if the course is deemed equivalent to the IU/Kelley course. My daughter has taken four CC courses, three of which were online - credit accepted for all.

WistfullThinking,

For example, I am currently taking ECON 201, which is the transferrable credit to IU for ECON-E 202, and MATH 201, which is the transferrable credit to IU for MATH-M 119, and I am taking both of those classes online through Ivy Tech. Both ECON-E 202 and MATH-M 119 are requirements for the Kelley Degree and according to <a href=“WCMS CTS : Indiana University Bloomington”>http://cts.admissions.indiana.edu/transferout.cfm these are the classes needed for those requirements when coming from Ivy Tech. So you think I am all good and don’t need to worry about it?

I understand your apprehension but if IU’s Credit Transfer System showed that the courses are accepted from Ivy Tech then you are fine. It doesn’t matter if the course takes place in a classroom or online - the work is equivalent and the course is the same. And, a heads up, after you submit your transcript it takes a few weeks for the IU registrar to process the credit so don’t be surprised by that. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
