When I self report my ACT writing score, are they looking for my 31 English/writing score or my terrible 8 score. Thanks for your help!!!

interesting question: with two answers:

daughter’s college counselor told her to put her essay score only; guidance office told her to put the english/writing score…

given that you send official score reports, not sure it matters…

There are boxes for both scores. In the English box you should list your 31 and in the writing box you should list your 8. If it’s any comfort to you, you are not alone feeling lopsided. Don’t let the lopsided subscore stop you from aiming high with your applications. My S has a 32 composite with a 7 on the essay. The low subscore has not deterred him from applying to some very selective schools that care about writing ability. We’ll see how that goes…

Thanks niceday, lets hope low writing scores can be “overlooked” with high English scores:) Act gives a score of 34 for English, 31 for English/writing and 8 for writing. I was hoping to hear eveyone say they want the English/writing score. But they will see the 8 eventually…hope they don’t hold it against me. My composite is 33 and 34 for those nice schools who superscore. Rodney, I like the answer from guidance office. I will see what my guidance says and let you know.

Guidance said to use the 31. Still not sure if this is correct because my guidance is terrible!!

Found the answer on Comman app site, use the writing score only.
