Self-Reporting SAT/ACT Scores

Okay, so my problem is this: I took both the SAT and ACT, and self-reported both scores (along with my APs). I got a 36 composite on my ACT, and a 2400 on my SAT (when I retook it this past June). I'm kind of proud of my scores on both tests, so I self-reported. However, 1. Colleges claim that they don't give preference to one test over the other. And official score reports cost money. And 2. I got an 8 on my ACT essay, which if considered would actually kind of bring my ACT score down, while I got a 10 on my SAT essay, which didn't bring my SAT writing score down and is in the "higher" range. One Harvard alumni seemed pretty impressed when I mentioned my scores on both tests, so I think it would weigh positively, but wouldn't the essay bring it down? My point is, should I send both SAT and ACT scores? And if I don't send ACT scores, should I bother self-reporting?

What a difficult and stressful decision. Glad I’m not in your shoes. Good luck OP.

^lol.

Regardless whether you self-report or not, you need to send the official test scores via testing agencies.

Why not read CC about similar problems, I’m sure a 2400 on the SAT means you are capable.

This has been hashed out before.

I am aware, and I have read other posts. But I just wasn’t sure whether I should back up all my self-reported scores with official reports, or whether one official score report from the SAT was enough. I would send both but its expensive, and I would send only SAT but one alumni I talked to sounded really impressed when she heard on my scores on BOTH. It’s the only reason I asked, and it was slightly different from the other posts I’ve seen.

Self report both. Send only the SAT due to the essay score – HOWEVER, this is dependent on if the colleges you are applying to require subject tests and if you did well on those as well. Because many of the schools that require subject tests (there aren’t many) require them only in conjunction with SAT Is – so it is SAT I plus two SAT subject tests OR ACT plus writing.

Okay, thanks! I got an 800 on both my Math 2 and my Chemistry, so I’m good to go with SAT. So that helps
