The CommonApp has applicants enter our SAT/ACT scores in the commonapp even though we are also going to have to send the score reports to individual colleges. I didn't get why, so I looked it up and one article said that it was to "speed up" applications. Is this true? Any input?

I took the SAT and ACT. If I am going to only send my SAT scores to colleges for financial reasons, should I self report my ACT scores anyway and not actually send the reports? Would it help me, hurt me, or just be neutral?

I have friends who got into colleges even though they had not sent in their SAT score reports. Does this whole self reporting thing have to do with this?

Common app is like your resume and sending the scores is validation.

There are also many rules in terms of reporting scores. Each school you apply to has a specific rule. Some consider single sitting scores, some consider super score, some want to see all of your scores to form an opinion and so on.

If you can meet the requirements of a school without using ACT score it is your choice. Some schools like Stanford require them if you took the test.

It is possible your friends applied to colleges which don’t require scores. There are schools that are making scores optional.

You can also self report your GPA etc but colleges require your official transcript.

Yeah I know the official rules, I guess I’m asking college students are people who have already gone through this process if they have any experience of self reporting but not sending scores.

If you don’t send the scores where the schools require official scores, your file gets ignored. One does it only if they don’t care if they are admitted or not.

Yeah but what if I send my SAT scores, but not my ACT scores - should I still self report?

Whether you report both or not is upto you. Without a specific list of colleges, it is very hard to tell you whether you are missing some requirement or breaking a rule at a specific college when you don’t want to report ACT.

Some colleges need you to report all tests taken, some require you to take two SAT subject tests if you don’t have ACT and some require you to take subject tests anyway. So whether you need to use your ACT score is entirely dependent on your college list.

With the colleges I am applying to, I am required to report SAT or ACT - I was thinking of self reporting the ACT, but sending in my SAT because sending scores is expensive :)

Wait, so does “All scores” mean all SAT or all SAT and ACT?

Thanks!

Self reporting will cause issues if you are not planning on sending them and the school waits for them.

You have to read rules at each school to see what they want.
