Is it possible? I'm a junior this year and I still need to take my SAT and subject tests.
The classes I'm taking this year are:
HL Spanish I (AP Spanish Lang)
AP/SL Chemistry
HL English I
HL History I (AP USH)
HL Math I (BC Calc)
AP Physics B.
TOK second semester
How much do I need to get 5s on the two tests. I'm a history person and I really enjoy studying it but is time too much of a constraint?
Thanks

Your schedule seems really intense as is, so i don’t think you need the self-studies. APUSH is a lot of info to learn, so I would not try combining it with other histories (using the term losely to include art history). It’s possible to do this, but you might have other things that are more important (SAT, ECs).

BTW, I’m confused a little by what you are saying with the IB vs. AP. Are IB courses at your school also AP courses? Or are you simply stating that they are roughly equivalent to the corresponding APs?

Some IB courses are combined and equivalent with the AP courses in parentheses. Some also show up as the AP course on transcripts. Thank you for the advice. I’m thinking about pushing studying AP World to senior year

It’s very possible. I had IB History of the Americas HL and IB Biology SL last year. I self-studied the extra material and got 5’s in AP USH and AP Bio.

As for AP World. It is possible to study with year two of IB History, it all depends on which route and prescribe topics your teacher teaches. Good luck

iScore, were you able to take these APs at your school or did you have to go to a different school to test? Also, did your Guidance Counselor approve of you taking APs as well or did you just self-study without asking your counselor? I was thinking about doing the same thing, but im not sure if my counselor would approve and I kind of want to take it at a school other than mine

sweetheart123,

I took the tests at my school with the people who were enrolled in the two courses. I talked to the teachers who taught the AP courses around this same time last year. They were okay with idea since they knew the kind of student I was even without having taught me (word of mouth from other teachers maybe).

I then talked to the head counselor at my school and she contacted our county coordinator for AP test. She approved my Biology since she was curious the results too. As for US History it was a last minute chance (4 students opted out after the county had paid for the test). I talked to the APush teacher again, and he was more than happy to give me a seat. In the end it worked out, but it took a lot of convincing the “higher powers” before I was allowed to take the two tests. When scores came back, I wasn’t the only one who was happy.

This year, the school/county is a lot more lenient on me signing up for AP tests that I can show I will self-study for. When word got out about the scores, a number of my friends who also take IB also wanted to take AP testing. The county is also lenient on them.

sweetheart123, I wish you the best of luck. Which course are you planning to take (IB and AP)
