would it be possible for me 2 self study ap art this yr with 3 other aps under my belt? i was thinking of reading the annotated mona lisa and use the REA and Barrons books for review since im not taking the class. im good with history, so should i take it? also should i prep with flvs by taking the class online? thanks everyone!

bump...anyone?

i think you can self-study it..but i do know that art history is hard b/c you need to memorize a lot and stuff..

^ok thank you, i was also wondering about bio. im taking environmental this yr so some of the material may be similar. do u think i should take that instead of art history?

bump...anyone know the answer to the question above?

Bio might be easier to (self?) study along with Environmental Science than Art History. I think the general consensus is that Art History is among the hardest APs, and the amount of memorization and interpretation makes it difficult to self-study, especially if you're not already an advanced student of art.

I've heard the FLVS art history class isn't very good. I personally hated APAH. I don't see how anyone could be successful on the AP exam if they are not genuinely in art history.

Having taken an Art History class, I can't really see how anyone could self-study AH and make a 5 (4 or below is certainly possible). WAYYY too much memorization and interpretation involved.

most people who took FLVS got a 4
to get a 5 with self-study is really hard but not impossible (i do know a guy who did that and he ended up majoring in art history)

try to find old AP Art History tests to help with practice
if your school has the course, the teacher should give you some

I took the FLVS course and got a 4. I didn't think that class is good online because it's hard to have the motivation to memorize everything...

yeah apah is a lot of memorization
some people think that it's really easy though (that's what i thought lol)

If you have a general sense and some background familiarity with either art or history things will stick easier and you won't have to force yourself to memorize a lot (There is a lot to remember.). It would be easier. I'm a history person, and I got a 5 on the exam relatively easily, without lots of forced memorization-studying (took the class though). Since you said that you are good with history, I'd say go ahead.

wow thanks for the answers guys! they really helped :)
