Hello all, I attend a high school where AP courses are no longer offered. However, I was given the option to take the AP Exams for World History and Biology.
I believe our valedictorian for the Class of 2013 did so.
I hope to achieve a 5.
I am taking the respective NYS Regents courses (Global History and Living Environment/Biology).
If it is doable, what books should I get? Textbooks or review books?
I am looking for the most concise way to a grade. Extra background knowledge isn’t necessary.

On Reddit, somebody recommended 5 Steps to a 5 for World.
I already purchased Cliffnotes 4th for Biology.

Thanks,

Saad

Good luck! The thing with AP Biology and AP World History is that they are very broad subjects. It would be very difficult to self-study for them. I am currently taking both of them as a sophomore, and, compared to Statistics and Human Geography, APWH and APBio require intense comprehensive due to the topics learned.

I use Princeton, but Barron gets more in-depth with World History. Princeton is easier to read but covers less information. Barron makes you know everything, but I have heard that half the stuff is not even on the exam. Try them both out and find out which one you prefer, and good luck!

I’m not sure how close Regents is to AP, but I have heard of their rigoresness so if both regents courses’s syllabus is close to the AP one, I would definelty try. I took both soph year as my first aps and I got a 5 on both, so it’s def possible for you to too (I actually took the courses at my school though)

I guess the main thing is to just make sure the curriculum are closely related. Im not sure about you, but I would not be motivated to learn all a bunch of new concepts just so I could take an AP exam, but thats just me.

I never really used my prep books (though I would definitely recommend for self studying since thats your only source of actual AP stuff)
You already have Bio Cliffs which I heard is good (I had Barrons but both have good reps for Bio). World, I would say Barrons or PR. Barrons has more detail (sometimes too much) and PR is concise (sometimes too less). So maybe Barrons? Personal preference I guess.
Not sure about Cliffs, but Bio Barrons’ practice exam were crap, not like the actual exam at all. Go look for released exam frqs from 2013 or earlier and practice mc from the practice test CB has

I have a terrible bio teacher, have learned nothing all year. Any tips for studying for AP Bio? What are the best books to buy, flashcards and even websites? I just want a 3.
