I am in Chemistry 1 Honors this year and am wondering if it’s entirely possible to self-study for the AP Chemistry test? I can’t change my schedule to AP now because schedule changes closed. I am in two other APs this year (Human Geography and Computer Science A).
Would it be possible for me to do this and pass the exam for college credit?
My son took the AP Chem test in May and said it was the hardest test. I do not want to be discouraging but you may have to take a prep course (if your school offers it) or some other type of prep course.
Very ambitious of you, but you can’t. In my experience, Honors Chem at my school was child’s play to AP Chemistry and many of the things in HChem wasn’t even in AP Chem because there is a lot more content. Just take the AP course when you can.
Like the other users have said, yes, it is very hard.
I know one person who did do it though, and I think he got a 4. but he is also kind of a genius and very hard working. Also, he would always go into our AP chem teacher’s class during lunch for help or questions
I’m gonna agree with everyone else here and stress that you do not self study for AP Chem. AP Chem is possibly the hardest AP test of them all, and consists of two full college semesters worth of content. The College Board even mentioned in their score distributions analysis that many of the lower scores on the AP chem test come from sophomores taking it after taking honors Chem. Also, there are many labs involved which are really essential to understanding.
I have to agree with everyone else here and stress that you don’t self study for AP chem. I took the class last year and it is possibly the hardest AP test of them all. It consists of two college semesters worth of content and a large portion of the low scores come from Freshman and Sophomores taking the AP test after taking honors chem.
There are also lots of labs that are essential to understanding the concepts.
