So, for the longest time, my school has squished AP US Gov and AP Comp Gov into one APGAP class and encouraged us to take both exams. This past week, my APUSH teacher dropped the bomb that they were wiping AP Comp Gov off the curriculum for next year, and we would have to take a half-year course, Honors Econ, in its stead. This basically ruins my plans of having taken 10 APs by the time I graduated. And I actually wanted to take the class (in its combined US & Comp form). Should I self-study or just let it go? Self-studying isn’t a common practice around my school, but I really do need the possible college credit. :(</p>
If you are interested enough in the topic and you think you will have the motivation to learn what is necessary for the exam without a teacher, I’d say go for it. However, if you are taking honors economics second semester, it might be easier to self-study for AP Microeconomics or Macroeconomics (I’ve heard the Macroeconomics exam is pretty easy even with a non-honors economics class) if you just want 10 APs and it doesn’t matter which exams you take. I don’t think anyone has self-studied in my school so I couldn’t tell you how it works out though. If you decide not to self-study, 9 AP exams is still admirable as long as you do well on them.</p>
