I have no prior programming experience. After running through the first 2 chapters of the Barrons, I noticed that many things didn't quite make sense. But with just using Codeacademy to program Javascript, (totally different from Java in the exam) everything made sense. So will it be possible to just self study using these resources?

bump

If you are trying to prepare for the 2014 exam without prior programming experience i don’t need believe you will be prepared in time for the test because it is difficult and time consuming to learn a first programming language. I can’t say about those materials specifically but just for a general idea it’ll be hard.

Java and JavaScript are different entities, essentially. I do not recommend you self study it because it will be simply disastrous if you run I to problems with understanding or even hardware.

I’m learning Java and some other languages this summer and taking it next year at school so I can understand it right way, let alone the fact that I want to pursue programming and software development as a career.
