My friend and I will be self-studying a few AP courses our freshman year, and we're not sure which one would be best. We'll be taking the exams in May of 2015. At first we thought we were going to do AP Euro because the exam was getting changed for 2016, but then we thought about how difficult it would be with the DBQ and FRQ's. We will only be freshman, and AP Euro is a pretty hard AP in general. We are thinking about doing AP Human Geo since it's really easy (and taken by freshman anyway) if we decide not to do AP Euro.

Which do you think we should do? AP Euro or AP Human Geo? Please tell us why we should do the one you choose :) Thanks!

I’m a freshman selfing AP Euro because my school doesn’t offer it. Human geo is a grad requirement for us, so I essentially have to take it in school. Otherwise id probably self study it.

As much as I love Human Geo, I must admit that it is the easier of the two. There is a lot of information involved in both, of course, but slightly less in Geo – that, and you only have to write FRQs, which are a lot less basic and time-consuming, as opposed to DBQs.

You both will have time for Euro later. If you’re a freshman and this is your first exposure to AP, it’s better to ease yourself in gently.

Well I got a high 4 and a low 5 on the two practice tests I’ve taken so far…

I’d say you study for human geo. The FRQ’s are merely content based and the graders cannot take points off for incorrect information, unless it contradicts a previous statement. I took the class this past year as a freshman, and I found the test to be pretty easy. You said there was an hgap teacher at your school, correct? If so, find out when test reviews will be held and ask them for resources to help you study! I found it somewhat difficult to adapt to AP course material and I don’t think I would have done well self studying, but I also didn’t really put my best foot forward when it came to studying for that class.
Human Geo is a a good course to take in general. Even though it is very easy, the material you are exposed to comes up again in other AP’s and is very valuable.

@emeraldwaves I’m actually taking AP Human Geo next year xD But thanks for your response!
