So I am looking for books to study for these test. I'm currently considering using 5 Steps to a 5 for AP Macro/Micro and Barrons for AP World. Do you think that these 2 books are all I'll need to self study these two AP's? If not, any suggestions on books?

I know Barron’s for WHAP is good enough to get you a 5. I casually read the book and didn’t really even read the textbook during the class and managed a 5 in the class. If you’re starting from scratch, however, I do believe thoroughly reading Barron’s from start to finish is the way to go. Also, take advantage of it’s practice tests.

For AP Econ, I can’t comment too much as I’m only taking it this year, but I can assure you not to use Princeton Review as your primary book. It’s written as supplementary material and assumes you’ve learnt almost everything in the curriculum and are just using it to review before the exam. I’m using Barron’s to read ahead and I’ve found it very good informative thus far.

For Micro, PR alone was enough for a 5. If there are any concepts you don’t understand from the book, just use Google. I didn’t take Macro this year, so I don’t know about that yet.

What?! Really?? I found PR too brief and assumed that the reader was using the book purely as supplementary material. Did you not use any other sources and started from scratch with PR?

For Macro, I used that book and I think it would be “almost” good enough to self-study. For macro, I feel that there are these “big picture” ideas, things you realize after taking a step back and realizing that everything goes together. No review book will get you this big picture entirely. So I really recommend talking to macro students to see if they can instill this “panoramic sense of macro thinking” in you.

@supersizeme, Would PR be a good supplement to 5 Steps to a 5?

@sa0209, Would this be the same for Micro?

No idea, Chapen. I’m taking the class this year and have never even seen, let alone read, the 5 Steps to a 5 book. Sorry :(

I see :o

anyone else?
