Self-Study AP Physics B or AP Physics C Mechanics

Hi there,

I know this is a rather late time to be asking this, but I have a question concerning AP Physics.

I am currently enrolled in Honors Physics, which covers probably 60 or so percent of what is on the AP Physics B exam. I am also enrolled in AP Calc BC, which I am doing extremely well in.

I started studying for AP Physics B about a month ago and was soon overwhelmed by the sheer amount of material to cover before the AP Exam. I've finally gotten my footing and am progressing forward.

But, as I do some practice problems, it seems like the Physics C problems are just a combination of some of the core Physics B concepts and some important Calculus concepts which I have down well.

Given that I have a month and a half only of hard studying, should I refocus my studying solely on Physics C Mechanics? Or can I learn the Physics B concepts remaining (which is at least 75% of them) in the time remaining? I haven't even touched on anything electricity or magnetism related yet.

Bump, I’m sorry but I need a response!

I would suggest focusing entirely on Physics C: Mechanics. There is so much in AP Physics B:- mechanics, electricity, magnetism, optics, nuclear physics, thermodynamics. I don’t think it’s feasible to learn all that at this point enough to score a 5.

Mechanics is a different story. The MC questions are generally easy and straightforward. I think you can definitely pull off a 5 on mechanics.

I would definitely go with Physics C: Mechanics if you’re going to self study. I took AP Physics B and there are definitely a lot of topics to know in the curriculum. Physics C: Mechanics is pretty feasible to self-study I would imagine since it’s only a semester long course. I found the optics, waves, nuclear physics, and electricity and magnetism to be really hard in physics b when I was taking it. Mechanics deals with more physical phenomena and more concrete in my opinion

Thank you both very much. I will do that then!
