So, next year I will be taking Physics 1 (yes, this is an AP course) in school which has the option to take the AP test at the end, I am taking it. Also, I am taking Biology Honors and Chemistry Honors next year as well. I want to supplement my textbooks with a study guide and AP textbook. I also want to self study for the AP Psychology.
Questions:
1. Biology: Should I buy an AP textbook for it and a study guide? Or should I just buy a study guide or just a textbook? Please tell me what textbook you would advise me to use for AP Biology.
2. Chemistry: Should I buy both a AP textbook and a study guide? Or should I just buy one? Please advise me on what textbook I should buy for AP Chemistry.
3. Psychology: I want to self-study for this completely without taking the psychology course in school. What textbook should I use for this? And what study guide?
4. I was also thinking about self-studying for AP World History... is this a good idea on top of everything? I also have this summer to study for them...
Please help!
Thank you very much in advance!

While I’m sure plenty of people here have had experience self studying AP subjects, this question may be better suited for the AP forum.

If you are self-studying, don’t get a ‘textbook’. Just buy the study guides ( I recommend buying 2 or 3 for each subject) and study from those. Buying an actual text would be wasting your time as much of the material won’t be on the exam.

Thank you for the info. What company of study guides do you find most helpful?

I used Barrons + Princeton Review + (5 steps to a 5). I liked PR better because sometimes I felt Barrons went into too much detail.

Make sure you work on your self-study and time management skills as well. Plenty of people tell themselves they will self study X amount of AP exams and then end up giving up. It’s not easy to study for stuff you technically don’t have to do, especially for a high school student!

Thank you all very much! I will definitely keep the advice you gave me in mind when choosing study books and when studying!

Yeah make a schedule and stick to it…
I failed to do this, and I have a slim chance at even passing the exams.
However, the nice thing about self-studying is that if you do poorly on the exams, then you don’t even have to report them to colleges. :)
