Self-Study AP US Government?

My APUSH teacher recently mentioned self-studying AP US Gov. It is something that has been in the back of my head since the beginning of the school year, but I never committed to it. I do have a general knowledge of politics, and I think I could do well since the exam is pretty much memorization-based. Is it something I should go for? AP deposits are due soon, but I feel like if I do take the exam I should have started studying a while ago.

I’m a junior by the way and I’m taking the APUSH, AP Lit, and AP Physics 1 exams as well. I’m expecting a 1 on physics, so it’s not like I’d be wasting any time by adding AP US Gov preparation to everything.

Any advice? If I do commit, are there any specific resources to use so that I can get a 3+?

You should. I know an 8th grader who was able to achieve a mark of ‘5’ (the highest mark) on this exam after only a few months of self-study. Having a good background in politics helps. Just be prepared for a lot of memory work. I would suggest (in addition to reviewers) reading news sites such as POLITICO or The Hill or watching C-SPAN. Getting up to date on current events will help very much in the long run.
