Self Study AP

Hi all. I am considering Self Studying for one or two of the following exams:
AP Human Geography
AP Environmental Science
AP English Lit

I have heard the first two are easy, but a lot of colleges don’t give credit for them. Would they help my application at all? Does anyone have experience self studying for any of these?

No they do not help. The only reason “self-studying” would make sense is for credit they don’t look impressive.

Colleges would rather see you do well in an AP class with a high grade vs. a high score on the AP exam. Most colleges do not even consider AP exam scores in their admission decisions. Also the top schools do not give much AP credit. I would look at each schools website to see if you will receive AP credit for any these courses.

I agree with the previous comments. Self-studying APs doesn’t really help with college admissions. It may give you credit though; out of the three you mentioned, AP English would be most likely to save you from taking a course. I personally self-studied AP Stats and AP Computer Science, but mostly because I was interested in the subjects and wanted to motivate myself (by signing up for the exam) to be disciplined in learning them.
