Self Study AP?

I was wondering, what does it mean to self study for an AP? Does it mean like just studying on your own for an AP without taking a course? Where i go to school, i think u have to take the course in order to take the AP...cuz if u can take the test without taking the course, i was going to do it.

What you said is what it means to self-study.

Also, if your school doesn't allow it, I think you can go to another school and take it. Given that the other school isn't as strict as your school.

Talk to the AP Coordinator at your school about taking tests when you are not taking the course. If you're the only student wanting to take the test, chances are they won't want to spend the time proctoring it and can refer you to another school that is offering it. If the course for the test you want to take is offered at your school, there should be no reason that the school doesn't let you take the test. They might not pay for or subsidize your test like they normally do, but they should let you take the test.

our school provided a proctor for me and my friend when were the only two taking the human geo exam. However I did have to pay for the exam(i dont have to when i take the class).

I was the only one in my district who self studied Environmental Science (we don't have the course) and I had my own personal proctor in my own room. He ended up falling asleep for most of the exam, but I didn't cheat :P.

The only reason why your school wouldn't allow you to take the exam would be if they don't have the resources - personnel, spacial, or otherwise - to administer it properly. If that's the case, contact Collegeboard and try to go to another local high school.

thanks! that really helped!
