Self-Study AP's?

Is it possible to self study these AP's? I am taking in school AP English 3, AP English 4, AP Calculus AB and AP Chemistry. My school does offer AP Bio, but I heard the class is impossible (hardest class at my school) but the AP Exam is a piece of cake.. My school does not offer computer science and psychology as classes though..

Would it be wise to self study Bio, Psychology, and Computer science?

I'm thinking of going into the neuroscience field..

Ive heard AP Psychology is rather easy to self-study. I don’t know about the other two though.

AP English Language and AP English Literature don’t require classes. The language test is like the SAT CR but with some essays. The literature test just has a multiple choice section with small passages (mainly poems) and 3 essays that you must write. As for the essays, this year we had to explain how the author of the first passage expressed the sentimental value of a quilt, write a character analysis for the second passage, and write about how a character in any book of literary merit undergoes a transition that is both enriching and detrimental. Frequent reading is your best preparation for these tests, especially the literature one. I recommend you read the following books:

Brave New World
Catch 22
Lord of the Flies
The Invisible Man
Song of Solomon
Tale of Two Cities
Pride and Prejudice
Color Purple
Anthem
1984

The last essay question on the literature test is always going to ask you to give specific examples from a book of your choice so you have to read. The list I gave you includes books that you can almost always refer to.

I have to take the AP english class anyway though, because I still have to fill the four year english requirement at my school, but I will definitely read those books!! :)

I am pretty positive I am going to self study the Psychology exam, because we don’t even offer it at my school and I love the subject

I don’t see how self-study of an elective for the purpose of taking an AP test can help your application in a measurable way. Class time, with discussions and critical writing and teacher feedback is the essence of the high school experience.

If you have the time for an extra class, and you can’t use that time in any of your extracurricular activities then explore available courses that may even be out of your comfort zone – possibly in art or music, or consider (if your school offers it) independent study. I’m sure that you can think of other in-school alternatives.

Computer Science is a lot easier if you have someone to help you find bugs in your program when you get stuck. Whether or not you need to be in a class for that depends on who you know that can help you out from time to time.

my school doesn’t really offer any serious art classes. oddly enough, i’m pretty artistic, so this winter i’m taking art classes at a university nearby

my school doesn’t offer any independent study classes :(

Don’t know how much it will help your college application. it depends on what courses are offered at your school, how well you do on the AP exams, what ECs you are foregoing and to what colleges you apply. If you get college credit to your eventual school, that is a plus!

I would like to apply to a top-tier school, do you think if I took a biology class at a community college and self studied for it and got a 5 on the exam that would be okay? or should I just take the class my senior year with AP calc? Are they too hard when put together?

I suggest you take ap psychology. It’s easier to study and basically very easy all about vocab. I had to read the whole Barron’s book which I prefer along with Princeton Review in 1 weeek before the exam. And also it mostly concentrates on the neuroscience areasish.

Cool!!! Ill definitely be self studying for that, because the class at my school is sort of an elective class that kids take to fill their schedules :/
