what is the better option,

taking AP Calculus AB in school and self-studying BC material and taking the AP Calculus BC exam

or studying this summer to skip AP Calculus AB and take AP Calculus BC in school?

I think, self study AP calculus this summer, and then take AP calc bc in school is better. because i think like most, if not all of 1st semester should be review of calc ab. then 2nd semester is BC.

I would NEVER consider learning a whole calculus course over SUMMER break! if I were you, I'd skip self-studying anything and just take the BC in school b/c like 8-boy over here said, a lot of BC is AB stuff. Seriously, it isn't two years worth of math.

I self-studied BC over the summer. It's not hard. Take AB, you'll know the entire curriculum before school starts and it will be easy. BC is not hard at all to self study (except maybe series and sequences, which you should read through a few times).

I agree with YanksDolphins. BC is essentially AB with a few extra topics added such as finding volumes using cylindical shells. You can find all the info on College Board's website.
