Self study for AP Conp Sci A

hi guys, i just wanted to know if anyone recommends self studying for AP comp sci a. I don't have much programming experience, but both my parents are programmers, and i have self studied for ap exams (physics b) before.
also what books (review and textbooks) should i get.

Barron’s review book is excellent.

I used the textbook found here - [BARNES & NOBLE | Starting Out With Java: From Control Structures through Objects by Tony Gaddis, Addison Wesley | Paperback, Other Format, Multimedia Set](http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/starting-out-with-java-tony-gaddis/1100059332?ean=9780321479273) - for my honors Java class. It covered all of the topics in a typical AP CompSci course in great depth, but it did not offer a lot of questions that resembled AP exam questions, just several basic section/chapter review questions. I’d highly recommend this as a supplement to your studies, especially as an aid for reading/writing code, but by just reading a review book such as Barron’s, as Rob mentioned, you should be able to get a 5.

I wondering if this is suicide or not but I am trying to get a 5 on this exam without much prior computer programming experience. Do you guys have any ideas for the timeline I should use to prepare?

Starchow: If you do not have prior programming experience, start early (like, September). Treat it as you would a regular AP class you are taking at your school. Follow a textbook (a real textbook, not an APCS review book), take a unit at a time throughout the entire year. Make sure you are actually programming, not just memorizing information from Barron’s. You’ll be a happy camper in May, and even happier afterwards, when you realize you’re actually programming and not just taking the AP test.

thanks bobbytables
I am considering it…

Hi, I am promoting something in this post. I have created a Java video tutorial covering the requirements(Java subset) of the AP Computer Science A exam.
It’s made in an easy to follow step by step manner. It’s only 4 hrs long, and every topic is covered in detail.
Every concept is taught using a simple program. There is also a small project to tie everything up.
I have 1.5 hrs of the 4 hr toutorial free at [Java in 4 hrs - Step by Step Video Tutorial - YouTube](<a href=“Java Tutorial for Beginners - Made Easy - Step by Step - YouTube”>Java Tutorial for Beginners - Made Easy - Step by Step - YouTube)
I assure everyone who watches the video, you will ace the AP Computer Science exam or I will refund the money.
Go ahead and give the sample chapters a try.
Take a look at the 16th part class and object just to get a hang of it here [P16 Class & Object - Java in 4 hrs step by step - YouTube](<a href=“P16 Class & Object - Java in 4 hrs step by step - YouTube”>P16 Class & Object - Java in 4 hrs step by step - YouTube)
Also, how to go about preparing for the exam is at [Patrick Videos](http://www.patrickvideos.com/#!ap-cs-exam/cctf)
