Self Study Physics B and Calc BC

Hi,

My school doesn't offer AP Physics B and Calc BC but I really want to get them out of the way before college starts. I'm not good at math, but I have an A in my AP Bio and Chem classes and an A in Calc AB (which is pretty much self study because our teacher doesn't teach) so is it possible to get a 5? How easy was it for you?

Your grades tell us that you’re moderately intelligent. That’s good. We don’t know exactly how hard your classes are, though, since it varies from school to school.

If you have a good AB foundation, self-studying BC won’t be too hard. Just make sure to practice a lot.

If you’re basically learning physics from scratch, you will have some serious work to do (especially since you say you’re not good at math). I self-studied Physics B and got a 5; it wasn’t easy but it wasn’t extremely difficult either. Lots of practice (again) is the key (along with, of course, a solid conceptual understanding). There is a lot of material to cover, so don’t even think about starting now if you haven’t had a physics class yet. If you are willing to work a decent amount to learn the concepts and develop your problem-solving skills, you will have a good chance of getting a 5.

I’ve taken a Physics class sophomore year so I’m not starting completely from scratch…but math still gets me concerned and especially since I will have to self study almost all of the AP classes next year. Perhaps I’ll just stick with Calc BC. Thanks for your advice!

Calculus BC will be more useful in terms of credit and placement than Physics B.
