Self Study VS. Taking the class?

I had a meeting with my principle today, and I told him that I was planning to self study AP Euro this year. His concern was that the top notch universities would look at my transcript and see that I didn't take the course. I said that the AP score is all that matters. Am I correct? Or is taking the class better than self studying? What do colleges, like the Ivies, want to see?

Thanks! :)

I wouldn’t recommend self studying AP Euro. I’m taking the class (I just finished the first semester) and am VERY nervous about the AP exam. History courses are difficult to self study.

However, if you choose to self study, this is a positive. However, it is not as impressive as taking the course. Colleges don’t really focus on AP scores.

I think all in all that it’s better to take the course.

 1. You’re more likely to pass the exam.
 2. You’ll get more out of the class.
 3. There could be a chance that you might have to retake the course in college. Is studying on your own as rigorous as taking the class with a teacher?

AP euro will be difficult to self study because there’s so much material. I ll be taking the class this year and I’m still nervous.
Why not self study “easier” APs? Like psych or ap human.
