self study?

I am interested in self studying an AP course because I am only taking two this year. Is it too late, if not what courses are easier to do outside of school? How would you go about self studying...do you just start and then sign up for the test at the end of the year or do you need to notify someone?

bump.. i'm curious as well

I just found a book on the subject and read that. Then get one of the review books and read that. Make sure you do the problems out so you dont just say, yea I could get that answer. Talk to your guidance counselour sp? and see if you can sign up through the school, or you might have to sign up through collegeboard. They want their money so I believe they will let you take the test regardless of what your school says. It is never to late, because you dont have to actually do any work for it. You shouldnt take a lab science independently, chem even physics and bio because you are suppose to have lab experience for some colleges.

how is comp gov? how about human geography? im thinking about doing both. what do you think? are they difficult. ill probebly just read the princton review before the test. is that enought? thanks all!

Definitely not too late.

Start calling schools around Jan-March to see if they let people outside their school sign-up for the tests. Most schools I've run into are pretty lenient.

Just start reading the textbooks and work through the problems. Here's a list of common AP books:

I also recommend getting a good prep book from the beginning to help guide you through the material.

As for the sciences, I'd check to see what your college of choice's policy is on accepting AP credit w/o lab. All the tests are very doable without lab, but some colleges are fickle.
