How do you self-study an AP course? I just heard about it on this site. Any information would be greatly apprechiated!

Most ppl just buy a study guide, such as barrons, and read through it.

Essentially, you tell your counselor at school you register you for whatever test. On your own time, you cover the material that will be tested on the AP test. I’m doing AP Biology self-study and I am pretty much working off my old knowledge of biology to prepare myself for the AP test. Idk how to explain it really, but you can do it for any class if you feel ready.

The approach depends on the subjects. For example, biology is highly straight forward, but history requires analysis and synthesis. However both require massive intake of information. As Oasis said in one of his posts, success with self study is more contingent upon your discipline than ability.

Usually you will need study guide(s), online supplements such as quizzes, notes, previous exams. Self-studying isn’t easy! It’s time-consuming and sometimes discouraging. Only do it if you are interested in the subject but it’s not offered at school, or if your schedule doesn’t allow you to take the class.
