Self-Studying AP Art History Tips

I am looking to self study AP Art History because my school doesn't offer it. I plan to not put too much money into self studying, so I will only buy a max of 2 review books and maybe 1 textbook. What are the best review books and textbooks that you have used?

Thanks!

Buuuuuuuump

Someone help please :)

Anyone taken AP Art History?

REA / Barrons are good.
I used Gardner’s Art Through the Ages as a textbook, which is pretty decent, but it’s huge, has a lot of material, and a lot of not as important artwork as in the review books.
I don’t know what to say, this is actually one of the harder APs to study for with basically a very very large bank of (in my class, really over a thousand pieces, but AP plans to limit it to about 200 something essentials soon) artworks, artists, styles, concepts, etc that you need to know.

This is an extremely difficult class to self-study because there is a lot of art work to memorize. My daughter’s AP art teacher also gave them lots of clues for how to remember the eras, type of media, etc. You also have to know the how and why of the pieces and sometimes, the music of the period.

Like tangentline, I used Gardner’s & Barron’s. Also, I’ve found the smarthistory/khan academy website & videos to be very, very enlightening. They should provide you with an idea of general concepts/art periods, as well as ways to think critically about art and make your own conclusions (which will help you immensely on the essays!). Good luck! This was, admittedly, the most painful AP I studied for.

I heard barrons was a good book.
