Self studying AP art

I have been an excellent art student since elementary school, and I have taken both art and art history classes. While my school does offer AP art history, I would rather take it this year than next year because of scheduling conflicts. Has anyone successfully self studied AP art before and what books were used? I am also an excellent history student and frequently visit museums such as MoMA, the Guggenheim and the Met since I live in NYC.

I figured this would be the best place to find out, thanks in advance!

D had the same problem last year. She ended up developing her portfolio on her own. She did not submit it for AP credit because that was kindof besides the point - already accepted at her colleges and would never use AP credit for art anyway. AP teachers could or would not offer her ANY help. Too busy with their own AP students, I guess. In the end, I think it actually helped her - showed a lot of independance in taking “outside” art courses, doing her own thing, etc. She’s in a design program now.
I think you would a lot of access to high quality art programs in NYC.
