Self Studying AP Calculus AB Concern

I'm currently a junior and was suppose to be taking Calculus AB this year. However, because I didn't pass the first semester of precalculus (which mostly was trigonometry) during my sophomore year, it resulted in me having to repeat first semester of precalculus. Although passing the second semester of precalculus, I couldn't take Calculus because of me having to repeat the first semester of precalculus. Not wanting to just waste my time learning materials that I had already learned, I decided to self study Calculus AB using various sources and eventually take the AP exam. I borrowed a Calculus textbook and decided to work with it with my AP Calculus Barron's workbook. I want to ask if this would be a good idea. Would it be better to wait until senior year to take Calculus AB, or should I self teach myself and take the AP exam? Also, what would be some good self studying sources (preferably online)? Would KhanAcademy be helpful?

Could you take Calc BC your senior year?

I think my school has Calculus AB as prerequisite for Calculus BC.

Well if you do fairly well on the AB exam I’m sure they would let you take BC senior year. If so, then I would definitely self study Calculus AB this year.

And yes, I found Khan Academy very helpful for calculus.
