Self-Studying AP Classes

Hello everyone! I was wondering whether any of you guys have self studied ap classes in around 2-3 months before the test and passed it with a 4 or 5, using review books and or other resources? I want to self study ap classes, so i want an idea as to which ones would be good? Help would be much appreciated!

It would really help if you guys responded!

It’s probably doable, but I wouldn’t really recommend it unless you want the college credit and your high school doesn’t offer the class. From an admissions perspective, if your high school offers the AP classes you want to study, actually taking them will look a lot better than self-studying. If your school doesn’t offer them, you’re not expected to take them and you’d be better off studying for the SAT, working on your extracurriculars, etc.

I started about this time last year self-studying AP European History. My experience was that it wasn’t too hard; I took about 45 minutes a day to read and take notes on a textbook, and I already knew the format of the essays from APUSH. So it’s certainly possible but up to you whether you have the discipline to learn it on your own every day.

Ya, I was thinking about self-studying ap macro for the ap test in may, so was wondering whether it would be possible if I start studying now?

The advice to study for the SAT instead of learning some actual content that might help you in the future is ridiculous. On the same token, if you decide to do this, you shouldn’t just use review books – they don’t actually cover the material that you would get by taking a course. If you want to learn something, get a real book and read it – whether you take the test or not is rather immaterial.

If there’s room in your schedule to take it next year (I’m assuming you’re a junior), then take the class. It’ll look better than cramming for a test. Admissions officers won’t be impressed by your ability to force-feed yourself information in a few months before the test.

I am a junior, and yes, i was thinking of self-studying ap macroeconomics next year, but was wondering whether it would be possible to study quickly and take the test based on the depth of its content and maybe do some other ap course for self-studying, so wanted tips on what classes can be self-studied in a duration of 2-3 months, with a score of 4 or 5 on the ap test.

And I am not substituting SAT stuff with this!

AP Environmental Science is the easiest AP test. I’m planning on self studying for it myself. Good luck!

APES has a reputation as an easy AP- but only 7% of candidates got a 5 last year (less than Chem or USH, for example).

Unless you are applying to international universities, having tests without the class doesn’t carry all that much weight in terms of admissions (and no, the AP scholar levels don’t either).

That’s some real helpful tip there, thank you! :)>-

It won’t help with admissions but it may certainly help you get college credit if that is your goal. If you have the time and desire, pick one that interests you, learn the material (get the text, AP Test Prep Guides), and go for it.

agree with @my2caligirls - but also be aware that many colleges limit how many credits you can get, so check the rules at the college(s) you are interested in.

As an international student, I have no option but to self study. I’ll be taking 5 APs this May. The high school curriculum here covers more than what AP does, so I have most of the content in my head. I’ll just be using review books.
