I'm planning next year to self-study AP Computer Science AB and AP Psychology. These are both offered at my school, but I don't have any more room in my schedule. What are some good textbooks and review books for these?

for psych.... Psychology by David Meyers 7th or 8th edition is good
review book: barrons

I second that.

i posted this in another thread.. but this thread looks like a good place to put it..

for ap comp sci AB.. how much of the programming and the stuff they teach u in the BARRONS review book (considered the best for this subject).. beforehand.

im self studying it too..

My school uses this book for AB:

It explains things very well.

If I get that one I'll get it used. I'll talk to my school's CS teacher and see if she has an extra book I can borrow for the year. Thanks for the help so far!

do u need any comp sci A experience for the comp sci AB test? im self studying it next year. and i am starting from like 0.. i dunno anything..

so it that book u gave me rpgaction.. good enough?

thx

If you don't know any programming at all, you'd better start learning fast because comp sci A just tests if you know java while AB goes into the more advanced stuff like sorting algorithms. For both tests you have to code, so you'd better get some first hand experience.

The same authors have a different book for A:

I was in a class designed to prepare me for APCS A this year and I self-studied the rest of the material to take the APCS AB exam. The Barron's book is REALLY good in learning the data structures and you'll realize it's not as much work as you think.

If you are self-studying this class with ZERO programming experience, you're going to be in for a tough time. To get a good understanding of binary trees and the more advanced structures you need to have a good base of programming experience so that you don't have to focus on calling the right methods and things like that. Start programming now - I'd recommend getting one book that was a programming textbook AND the barron's book.

Hopefully I'll be taking a computer programming course over the summer at Carnegie Mellon (still waiting for reply). If I do, then I'll have sufficient background to self-study from A level to AB level.

thx guys for ur help.. im gonna get my parents help this summer.. they're both experts at JAVA... but both of them have a tendency to lost their temper.. but thats alright.

Should I also self-study Environmental Science? I heard it was a joke and I know everyone at my school considers it the easiest science AP by far. I have a good record in AP sciences anyway.

Yeah. thats what id like to know too.. I heard it was simple with ap bio and using the smartypants guide.. ur pretty much unstoppable for a 5..
