I know this is probably stupid, but what steps should you go through to self-study for an AP exam? For example, AP Human Geography? What should I do to self-study for that exam, and when should I start doing it?

I'm interested in learning about this as well. I just took the AP Human exam (results are back on july 1, though i'm confident I 4-5'ed it). Get yourself at least one of the textbooks. Theres deblij, rubenstein, knox, and mebbe others i'm forgetting. Oh, baron i think. Definitly pick up an ap human exam study guide toward the end (baron write a good one) and replace your family bible with it (or your family gospel of the FSM, in my case).

Get yourself Barron's Prepbook or Rubenstein's Study Guide and go over it.

For Human Geo definitely get a textbook, not just the review book (there is only one and it isn't very good, not to mention the writers are extremely biased on certain issues.) Human Geo combines a lot of vocabulary with a few concepts and real world examples.

As for other tests, World History and American History can both be studied from review book (though in your case you might want to get the ones that are overly detailed, just to make up for what you might have missed in a class). I wouldn't recommend taking English without a teacher correcting your essays.

I'm not so good about starting studying on time, so I'll leave it at that. Good luck, if you chose to self study.

Get a prepbook, research topics online, go to the collegeboard website and check the syllabus. Start as early as you can - I'm starting things over the summer so that I don't have to go through last-minute stress and can spend the year reviewing, though you can start a month before and still five if you know how to work. Be extremely disciplined. Find old practice tests online. If you have trouble with anything, ask a teacher at your school who teaches the class, or a similar one, or who would know. Good luck :)

It is sort of early to be thinking about self-studying, but its ok. I had self studied stat, micro, and macro this year and had ordered the kaplan prepbook at the start of summer holiays.

All I can say is don't overdo it as in self study like 8 ap exams. Extracurriculars are way more important and fun!
