Self-studying AP goverment- need advice

Okay, my situation is sort of unique- I currently go to a boarding school that I just started at this year. I'm a sophomore there, but I am a repeat sophomore. Many people in prep schools do a repeat year, not because I did bad last year but because it just makes you look better for colleges and adjust better to prep life. I hate school and am coming home in two weeks when I go on Christmas break (hopefully). I want to come back to my public school and be a junior. The problem is obviously that the school years started and I'm taking different classes than my school offers.

I think, but am not positive, that some goverment classes are double blocked, and half year courses, so if that is the case i guess I can just do that. I want to go to a very good college so I don't want coming home to mess my chances up.

I know I can self-study AP gov, my question is does anyone know how much time it takes to do so? If I work REALLY hard at it? I've heard it doesn't have that much material in comparison to the other courses. If I start now, do you think that I'll have the material covered by the time of the AP tests in May?

AP US Government and Politics, AP Comparative Government and Politics, or both? There’s a pretty big distinction between the two.
