Self-Studying AP Lit

Anyone here self-study AP Lit? Got any tips? I'm looking at Barron's and Cliff Notes for the prep book, but I can't find a clear consensus on which is better (based on Amazon reviews). Book (not prep books) recommendations would be perfect.

just pick three works of literature, read them, read them again, know them so well you could repeat them on demand, and be prepared to use them in your answers. try to pick books that you think demonstrate a variety of elements, e.g. description, etc. also, study a wide range of poetry and learn the terms and whatnot.
