So I'm planning on self studying algebra based physics and taking the ap exams. Is this recommended? Will I get 2 aps counted towards national merit? What textbook(s) should I use? What can I do to ensure that I get a 5 on both exams?

On another thread, you indicated that you plan to take AP Physics C as a senior. In which case, self studying AP Physics 1&2 is a waste of time IMO.

But would it worth it for just getting national ap scholar points

I’m not sure what AP Scholar gains you other than personal satisfaction. If that’s your goal, sure. Personally I think there are better uses for your time.

I personally think it look bad to get the AP scholar thing this way. It somewhat like taking Calc AB and BC in the same year just to stack up some more AP’s (and I believe that is one of the reason why they don’t let people take both Calc in the same year)

No it’s because many of the questions are identical on both tests.

If you think it’s a bad idea then what do u recommend I self study?

Unless it’s to scratch some intellectual itch that is not covered in coursework in your school, nothing.

Based upon your other post that you are looking to apply to Exeter next year, all your excess time should be diverted to strengthening your application for prep school.

If/when you get accepted to a school such as PEA, you will never again ask which subject you should self study because you have no idea how little free time you will have :)

Good luck.
