I'm currently a junior taking AP Physics B and am expecting a 5 on the AP exam. However, next year will be the first year my school offers AP Physics C, and I'm currently planning on NOT taking it, due to space in my schedule and what not. Unfortunately, the colleges that I'm looking at do NOT accept a 5 on the Physics B examination for any credit. They do accept a 4/5 on Physics C though.

This is basically just a long winded way of asking if it would be possible to self study AP Physics C and expect a 5 without the class, or if I should just man up and force it in my schedule. I'm also applying as an engineering major, if that's applicable.

One last question: If I say I'm self studying AP Physics C on my application, will colleges give a rat's ***? Will it look significantly better if I take it?

If you’re going to major in engineering, you really want to have C on your transcript somewhere. What would you have to cut out to fit it in? I’ve heard that the mechanics half of it is easy if you’ve taken B and that the electricity/magnetism half is manageable.

Senior Year:
Honors English 12*
MV Calculus*
AP Chemistry*
AP Biology
AP Statistics
2 History Trimester Electives + 1 Trimester of Religion*
Free Period

Obvious solution is to take AP Physics C during my free. However, I don’t think I’d get departmental permission to do that. I could definitely give that a shot though. Also I want to take AP Euro, but I need an extra trimester of religion to graduate. Does this look better?

Proposed Schedule:
Honors English 12
MV Calculus
AP Chemistry
AP Biology
AP Physics C
AP European History
1 Trimester of Religion + 2 Trimesters Free
