Self-Studying AP Physics C

I've taken calculus and want to know how i can self-study AP Physics C and whether or not it would be too late to start studying now. Do i have to go through an entire textbook or will a good prep book + a textbook for reference be enough for a 4/5? I have no previous physics knowledge besides the physics course I'm in right now, which sucks.

(Both M and E/M)

4 months is quite short and since you don’t have any previous physics knowledge, I wouldn’t recommend it.

I believe if you really want to self study, get a textbook+prep and study only for the Mechanics exam. E+M is pretty hard from what i have heard.
I’m self studying for ap physics c as well.

E&M is harder than mechanics and a lot harder than what it seems.

Would I be able to self-study Physics C? I have a solid Calculus background and took honors physics last year and am now taking Physics B this year (because C is not offered). So basically I already have a background in Mechanics and E&M, but would just need to add the Calculus to it.

I’m in the same situation as you. I think you’ll be able to self-study Physics C but you may need someone to help you with E&M. That bit’s a little tricky.

If you have the Physics B background, you should be able to self-study Physics C. Assuming you fully understood the mechanics in B, it’s pretty much the same in C – except that the FRQ’s are more difficult and require application. If you were to self-study C, you should focus on rotational dynamics (that’s not really covered in B) and E&M.

I have not touched the E&M part yet but the Physics C Mechanics was extremely hard for me, provided that I’m quite confident with my Calculus background - and I’m not talking about kinematics here. Oscillations anyone? You guys must be geniuses to self-study AP Physics C… I know I can’t.

But to the OP, you will obviously need a textbook because I’ve glanced through all of the AP prep books available for Physics C and they’re only to reinforce the information you’ve already learned, not to get you really understand the concepts. And I find the practice problems in there way easier than the problems I have to do for school too so… Hope that helps.

Oh man I’m only taking the C Mechanics and am freaking out. I took Honors Physics but found it extremely difficult. The teacher is just not helpful at all. Please, would someone be kind enough to detail what i can do to learn just enough for a 3 or even a 2 on the exam?
